Buying Guide for Best Backpacking Camp Stove
Here are factors to consider when looking for the best lightweight camping stove:
The type of best backpacking stoves
Mostly, you can figure this means whether the best hiking stove is powered by gas, liquid fuel, alcohol or wood.
Gas stoves come in canisters while for liquid and solid fuel, you have to figure out how to carry the fuel. If possible, get a multi fuel camp stove so that you can use whatever fuel is available.
Backpacking camp stove design
No one wants to risk having their stove toppling over and scalding their feet due to a high center of gravity. Thus, look for a stove with a wider base.
It is better to carry a little more weight than spilling your hot dinner on the ground. The best folding backpacking stove will be easy to carry.
Type of food you will be cooking
If you are camping with your family and you want to make them full-blown meals, then you will need a big stove that can cook meals for three or more people.
That also means more fuel, so be ready to bring enough of that. If you will be eating packaged meals that just require to be cooked in boiling water, a smaller stove will do.
Your camping destination
The area where you are going camping can also help you to buy the right backpacking stove. For example, a canister stove is best for windy areas as the flame will not be wasted. However, you can also take a windscreen with you to save your fuel.
Take what is not banned
There could be a fire ban wherever you are going camping. You will have to find that one out. Multi-fuel camping stove that uses liquid and solid fuel is seen as the main culprit for causing forest fires. Therefore, they are the most banned.
Just make sure you bring one of the best cook stoves for camping that you can use.
Season
There are three season stoves, summer stoves, winter stoves and so on. Basically, you can just use any stove for any season, only that the liquid and solid fuel stoves will consume more in winter when you have to make water from ice.
Expert campers and backpackers say that liquid fuel stoves are best for winter camping conditions. Same way there are winter sleeping bags is the same way there are camping stoves for different times.
Other factors
These would be things like the weight of the stove, especially for a backpacking or a hiking vacation. You can also consider the price of the camp stoves and buy what you can afford.
Usually, we advice people not to sacrifice quality on the altar of price. It is better to pay a little more money to get more features and longevity, than otherwise.
Backpacking stove fuel
This is the biggest determinant of the kind of lightweight stove you are going to buy. The best backpacking camp stove is available in three types mostly, as below:
a) Liquid fuel
This stove is built to be connected to a refillable container. This container is then detached when traveling. The recommended fuel is lantern fuel, also referred to as white gas, which is specifically made for backpacking and camping.
b) Canister stove
The camping propane stove is the latest arrival in the camping and backpacking arena, but it is very popular today. It is very easy to use and comes with pressurized gas like propane and isobutane. The canisters are self-sealing, making them spill-free.
c) Solid fuel camping stove
The solid fuel backpacking stoves run on solid wood as their name suggests. They are not very popular, but they are available all the same. They usually run on wood or fuel pellets, which you can buy at the store.
Conclusion
That is it for the best cook stoves for camping.
Having seen a few samples of the best of the gas canisters, liquid and solid fuel stoves for hiking and camping, what are you waiting for? Go get one today.
Chewing beef jerky for breakfast, lunch and dinner is not something that you want to do on the trails because you need energy from good food.
All the potential energy stored in freeze-dried trail foods can only be freed in boiling water. The stoves for backpacking will allow you to eat hot meals when you are out there in the cold.
The best budget backpacking stove will occupy the same space in your backpack as a pair of hiking boots would.
Comments
We had Coleman Liquid Fuel whenever we go camping and whenever you had problems with fuel tank, the most often tank-related problems are problems to create pressure and failure to hold that pressure once it has been achieved. When a stove is operating properly you should not have to pump the tank again once a blue flame has been attained.
